Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer:

"It was rather characteristic of the way we like to play. It's not always pretty but we keep staying th course and we made enough plays to get the job done. I was particularly pleased with our kicking game against the top-ranked special teams in the National Football League. The offense struggled a bit in the first half and came back and ran it reasonably well when we ran it. We came back in the second half with the purpose of running the ball and we did a pretty good job of that.

"This is a good offense that Dallas has got. They made a few plays on us, but in the fnal analysis if you don't turn the ball over, if you can run the ball and make some first downs and you play tough defense, and the kicking game is there, you're going to have a chance to win. Somebody said it was kind of ugly and I said that's the way we always win, ugly."

Q: After throwing the ball 34 times in the first half you went back to the running game. Why ?

A: "We got a little bit out of sorts in the first half. We made a decision that we wanted to run it and then we thought there were some opportunities in the passing game. To their credit, they made the plays. At the half, (Offensive coordinator) Jimmy (Raye) and I talked about it and we decided we had to come back with the running game because the rushing game with the opportunities was there.

"But I was particularly pleased with the defense in the first half. That's a very, very good Dallas offense. We ended up hanging in there and they got some plays at the end. But we did what we had to do to win it."

Q: What happened at the end of the first half when you ran out of time ?

A: "I considered grounding the ball on third down which then would have given us the opportunity to put the placement on the field without any duress. But I felt like we could maybe make another five or six yards with a completion and then go ahead and run the group on. We were clearly right on the edge at 18-20 seconds. I thought the opportunity to get some yards was worth the risk."

Q: Were you happy you were able to run the clock out today since you haven't been able to do that ?

A: "That was the objective. We had done a nice job against them in the running game. Jimmy came up with a couple of really good plays. The first was a power play off tackle. Then we took an inside power play and then we went to a power play the other way. It's important in the 4-minute offense, which we refer to it as, that you have a guy who is in the groove. Certainly, Bam Morris was in the groove today."

Q: Talk about your QB's play.

A: "We had some situations where he had to throw the ball away because of pressure. They came out the first two plays of the game and brought linebackers up the middle. Some of those throws that were incomplete were the result of pressure and we were just getting the ball away rather than take a sack."

Q: Talk about playing for the last time at home this year.

A: "We've got the greatest fans in America. That's been evidenced by the fact that a couple of weeks ago in the Arizona game, a non-conference opponent, we get a crowd out there in excess of 70,000 that supports us. Let's not kid ourselves, the crowd that is in this stadium has been very instrumental in many of our successes here."

Q: Do you believe the pendulum has swung to the passing game, but today you showed what you can do when you run the ball effectively ?

A: "We were a little bit out of synch in the first half. But we got it worked out at halftime. Bam was averaging 5.6 yards a rush in the first half."

Q: Why was the running game so good today ?

A: "This group is kind of coming together and Bam is getting more and more comfortable. Guys like Donnell stepped in and ran and did a good job blocking as tony Richardson. I think its' more a product of being together and working together, coordination becomes important."

Quarterback Rich Gannon

Q: Talk about the running game and how it helped today ?

A: "It certainly helped on that last drive. I thought we ran the ball well today. We sort of wanted to mix and match more than we have in the past. I think the took about a quarter and a half to try and figure out what we wanted to do offensively in the first and part of the second quarter. We took a lot of shots down the field and I thought, personally, I wasted some opportunity. Then we came out in the second half and played a lot better. Certainly, the emergence of the running game, in my opinion, was a big factor today."

Q: Was there any point when you didn't feel well ?

A: "I didn't feel as well as I have in the past. It wasn't one of my better outings. We took a quarter in a half and wasted some opportunities. Part of that is on me. We just kind of were bouncing around out there and not playing our type of style of football."

Q: Talk about the 12 yard scramble.

A: "The first two receivers weren't open and I saw the opportunity to come back the other way. I wanted to throw it obviously and then there was just a big hole there and my first concern was to get a first down. The guys did a good job of coming back but it just didn't seem that it clean enough to be able to stick one in there."

Q: Talk about the roll-out for the TD.

A: "It's a naked that's a run-pass option. In that situation you'd like to run it first but the safety kind of played it pretty good at the start. So I had plenty of time to wait on what he was going to do."

Q: Talk about not getting as big chunks today ?

A: "They had a pretty good plan and it took us a little while to adjust ours to get it going. Certainly in the second half we were a lot more efficient offensively."

Q: You beat a division winning team and you have to wait to see if you're going to be the starting QB next week. How do you deal with that ?

A: "I just come here every day and work hard. Whatever Marty decides that's OK. I will never put myself in a situation where I will ever worry about what happens behind me or what a coach's decision is going to be."

HEAD COACH - CHAN GAILEY:

Opening Comments
"We challenged our football team about seven weeks ago to get on a roll, get on a streak and win a few in a row, and we've almost set ourselves to that point again, and that's not a good feeling for our football team. We've got to get ourselves organized and regrouped and whatever other term you want to use and get ready to go win a football game this week and fight our way into the playoffs. That's what it takes, you've got to fight. We fought at times on all phases tonight, there were times we had lapses. And lapses will get you. I'll go back to that word I used earlier in the year, consistency, and we're not there now. We got to get that back in order to get this thing where we want to get it."

Q: What are your thoughts on the offense in the first half today?

"We did not do a good job of running the football. We could not sustain anything. That's what was hurting us at that point."

Q: Can you talk about the interception?

"It was a go-route and the safety (Jerome Woods) overlapped it. The two turnovers in the ball game hurt us."

Q: What were your thoughts on Deion Sanders before the game?

"Deion, he wants to play and we just felt like at the percentage he was ready to go tonight jeopardized him too much for re-injury. I thought it was best that we not play him."

Q: What is the injury to Michael Irvin?

"They're re-examining him right now. We won't know the full extent of his injury until we get the x-rays."

Q: How much did that hurt you in the second half?

"Anytime you lose a player like Michael or Deion, it hurts. The guy's been a great player for a long time. It hurts, but it's not an excuse."

Q: How was your run defense?

"I thought we didn't tackle well. I thought we had guys in position sometimes but Bam (Morris) just broke a bunch of tackles out there today. He's a big guy and he's hard to wrap up. You have to run through the guy. We didn't get him on the ground."

Q: Talk about your special teams with a blocked punt and a fumble.

"Normally you don't expect those kinds of things. But we got them and we have to overcome those. If you're going to be a great team, you have to overcome those."

Q: Are you surprised how the confidence level and production of the offense has changed over the past few weeks?

"I'm probably the most surprised to be honest with you. I thought we were playing good, I thought things were going well and all of a sudden we hit a stretch here where we couldn't do anything. You have to adjust, you have to see what you're doing that's causing you not to move the football. You've got to get it straightened out. That's part of this game."
