Chiefs Announce High School Coaches of the Year

08cow

The 2008 High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chiefs Ambassadors and the National Football League.  Supported locally by the US Army, this program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance throughout the year.

The following coaches were selected from Missouri and Kansas, respectively, as the High School Coach of the Year the entire 2008 high school football season:

Missouri
Coach David Allie
Raytown South High School

Raytown South opened the season 5-0 while outscoring opponents 198 to 56 during that span. The only loss of the year came to fifth ranked Fort Osage in a close game, 29-22. The Cardinals went on to win the rest of their regular season games. In post season play, Raytown South beat both Winnetonka and Raymore-Peculiar, while redeeming themselves in a 6-0 victory over Fort Osage.

Kansas
Coach Marvin Diener
Gardner-Edgerton High School

The Trailblazers from Gardner-Edgerton came out of the gates strong, beginning 7-0. During that span, the defense had four shutouts and never surrendered more than 14 points in a game. Their only regular season loss came to St. Thomas Aquinas in a hard fought game, 12-6. The Trailblazers would recover, winning their next four games, two of which were in the post season. Their season, however, ended against the same team that broke their unbeaten streak, St. Thomas Aquinas.

Sales of Chiefs “Pink Ribbon Wear” to Help Others in Need

The Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Cancer Center are teaming up to present an exciting way for our fans to help fight breast cancer. Now through the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are encouraging fans and survivors alike to purchase special Chiefs “Pink Ribbon Wear” merchandise. It can be found at the team’s pro shop located next to the ticket window at Arrowhead Stadium, during the game at the team’s fan stands and on the team’s official on-line Pro Shop (T-Shirt | Cap). When you purchase one of these Chiefs branded “Pink Ribbon Wear” items, $5.00 will be distributed to the Young Survival Coalition.

The Chiefs and Kansas City Cancer Center will then present a check in representation of the funds raised via this campaign to the Young Survival Coalition. That special ceremony will be held during the team’s November 16th game against the New Orleans Saints.

This is the perfect opportunity to not only show your Chiefs spirit, but to also back an organization on the forefront of the fight against breast cancer! The Kansas City Chiefs are partnering with 101 the Fox to give you total access to your team. Join us as we host four FREE events throughout the metro area to thank you for your loyal support!

For the past 45 years, Kansas City has been a home to the Chiefs. By joining forces with local venues, we are excited to give back to a community that has given us so much. To that end, the Chiefs will host four two-hour events to take place throughout the metro area between March and June. These events will give fans the opportunity to meet a host of players and get to know the men behind the uniform. A key member of the Chiefs coaching staff will join the “Voice of the Chiefs”, Mitch Holthus, for an inside look at the team and an exclusive Q&A session at each event. Special appearances will also be made by KC Wolf and members of the Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders. Each event will include the opportunity for autographs, pictures, Cheerleader performances, interactive football games and prize giveaways.
