3rd Year NFL Coach • 3rd with Chiefs

Bob Bicknell enters his third season with the Chiefs and his first campaign coaching the club’s tight ends. He was promoted to the position of offensive line coach in 2008 after originally joining Kansas City as an assistant offensive line coach in 2007.
Owning 16 years of coaching experience at the pro and collegiate levels, Bicknell was instrumental in helping G Brian Waters regain his Pro Bowl form a year ago. In addition, he aided in the rapid development of T Branden Albert, who started 15 games at left tackles as a rookie. Bicknell will tutor 10-time Pro Bowl TE Tony Gonzalez and the rest of the Chiefs tight end corps in 2009.
Prior to joining Kansas City, Bicknell served as the offensive line coach at Temple in 2006. He presided over a young blocking unit that featured sophomore C Alex Derenthal and redshirt freshman T Devin Tyler. Derenthal was named to the 2006 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I-A Football All-Star Team in 2006 and became the first sophomore to be named Temple’s Most Valuable Player. Tyler opened all 12 games at left tackle and was named honorable mention freshman All-America by The Sporting News.
Bicknell concluded a successful eight-year tenure in NFL Europe with a two-year stint as the offensive coordinator for the Cologne Centurions (2004-05). RB Kory Chapman ranked second in NFLEL with 718 rushing yards and 1,103 yards from scrimmage under Bicknell’s direction in 2005. In his first season with Cologne, Bicknell helped QB Ryan Van Dyke top the league passing charts with 2,003 yards.
Bicknell served as the offensive coordinator for the final three seasons of a four-year tour of duty with the Berlin Thunder (2000-03). The club recorded a league-high 3,704 yards from scrimmage and led NFLEL with 2,667 passing yards in 2002 as current Chiefs three-time G Brian Waters anchored the offensive line. Berlin won its second consecutive championship when it claimed a 26-20 victory vs. the Rhein Fire in World Bowl X.
In his first season as offensive coordinator for Berlin, Bicknell oversaw a unit that paced the league with 2,189 passing yards, while ranking second with 3,243 yards from scrimmage. Berlin registered a 24-17 win vs. Barcelona in World Bowl IX. He originally joined the Thunder as offensive line coach in 2000.
Bicknell began his NFL Europe coaching career as an offensive line coach with the Frankfurt Galaxy (’98-99). The Galaxy won the World Bowl in ‘99 and also made the championship game in ‘98.
Bicknell embarked on his collegiate coaching career at Boston University in ‘93. He coached safeties his first season with the Terriers under head coach Dan Allen. He coached the running backs in ‘94, tutoring RB Julian Dale, who was named the Yankee Conference Rookie of the Year. Bicknell coached linebackers under head coach Tom Masella from ‘95-97.
Bicknell was a three-year letterman as a tight end at Boston College. The Holliston, Massachusetts native comes from a football family. His father Jack served as the head coach of Boston College from ‘81-90 and spent 13 seasons as a head coach in NFL Europe before retiring in 2007 as the head coach of the Hamburg Sea Devils. Bicknell’s brother Jack, Jr. is the assistant offensive line coach for the N.Y. Giants.
