Kansas City Chiefs player appearance guidelines
The Kansas City Chiefs make appearances throughout the Kansas City area. The most common settings for player
appearances are schools, charity or non-profit events and business functions. Players are available for one or two-hour
times periods. A one-hour appearance is preferred. Appearances within one a one-hour drive from the Kansas City area
are preferred. Paid promotional appearances can vary in length but are generally no more than two hours.
The Kansas City Chiefs try to accommodate as many player appearance requests as possible. However, the number of
requests we receive far outweighs the number of requests we are able to fill. We can accommodate just one appearance
per organization per year.
CRITERIA
We want this experience to be beneficial for those involved with your event and the players, themselves. With that
in mind, we ask that each appearance meet the following criteria:
- Direct interaction with children or elderly
- NO Career Days (This is not realistic because only 1 out of 100,000 athletes make it to the NFL)
- Clear role for the player at the event (read a book, motivational talk, etc.)
- NO athletic functions that may cause injury to the player
- Make sure the maximum number of people are influenced by the visit (an entire school assembly rather than a
classroom-to-classroom tour)
FEES
Fees for player appearances are not set by the Chiefs organization. Individual players and their agents determine
the rate for an appearance. These rates differ, depending on the player requested. Many civic organizations offer
honorariums or offer to make donations to a charity specified by the player or directly to a player’s foundation. This
incentive helps secure the player for your event. All payments should be made directly to the player and must be paid
by the conclusion of the event.
PLAYER AVAILABILITY
Chiefs’ players are available at two different times during the year. The best time to request a player appearance
is following the Pro Bowl (mid-February) through the end of June. Players also make a limited number of appearances
during the regular season. Please keep in mind, the players’ only day off during the season is Tuesday. Players are NOT
available during post-season play. Also keep in mind that many of our players live outside the Kansas City area during
the off-season. This may make it difficult to get the exact player your organization requests.
PROMOTING PLAYER APPEARANCES
The Kansas City Chiefs must approve use of the Kansas City Chiefs name, logos and trademarks and/or any advertising
that implies the support or sponsorship of an event by the Chiefs or the NFL. Before promoting a Chiefs player
appearance, please check with the Community Relations Department for appropriate practices.
REQUESTS FOR COACHES AND STAFF
Coaches and staff also make appearances in the community but are often on a tighter schedule than the players.
Please keep this in mind when submitting your request. Player appearance criteria and guidelines apply to coaches and
staff as well. All appearance and speaking requests for Chiefs coaches and staff must be made in writing to Ann Roach
in the Coaching Office at the following address: One Arrowhead Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129. The letter should contain
all of the same information required for a player appearance.
Head Coach Herm Edward’s appearances are set up by his administrative assistant, Ann Roach. President/GM/CEO Carl
Peterson’s appearances are set up by his executive assistant, Emily Claver. Please submit these requests on company
letterhead to the following address: One Arrowhead Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129. The letter should contain all of the
same information required for a player appearance.
